Mr. Alam has over 20 years of experience in the financial sector. Before joining AKD Securities as Deputy CEO in 2007, he was working first as the Head of Mutual Funds Division and then as the Head of Treasury at Pakistan Industrial Credit and Investment Corporation (PICIC) where he was involved in first buy out of state-owned mutual funds by the Privatization Commission and thereafter in managing the funds. He also spearheaded mergers of 13 closed end funds into one fund by identifying and adopting the shortest legal course eliminating courts involvements. Under his dynamic leadership, the Net Asset Value (NAV) of the funds grew at a very healthy pace beating KSE- 100 index and other parameters set by the management. Mr. Alam gauged the appetite of the market and raised over Rs. 3.4 billion through right issues by first convincing the management, board of directors and then the investors, which was a new trend in the mutual fund industry.
Mr. Alam also reorganized ICP SEMF under NBFC Rules 2003 and managed floatation of two new funds.
Mr. Alam acted as the Domestic Consultant for Asian Development Bank on Financial Sector Intermediation Loan (FSIL), during 2004. The assignment included review and reporting on various policies and procedures agreed by the Government of Pakistan with ADB. These related mainly to monetary policy, foreign exchanges, money and capital markets.
Before joining PICIC, he was the Head of Finance and Secretary to the Executive Committee and Board of Directors at CIRC, Government of Pakistan where he was actively involved in remedial banking. He paved the way for Government institutions to place their funds with private sector banks meeting certain criteria which not only enhanced the income of the corporation but also cleared the hurdle for other organizations once for all.
He has extensive investment banking experience which he gained during 10 years of his stay with Crescent Investment Bank Limited-the first investment bank in Pakistan, where he served in various capacities including Treasurer, Equity Strategist, Chief Financial Officer and Manager Corporate Finance. He also managed clients portfolio of over PKR 3 billion.
Mr. Alam is a fellow of Chartered Accountants (FCA) and serves on various Committees of the Institute of Chartered Accountants including a high powered Economic Advisory Committee.
Mr. Vakil has over 7 years of experience in sell side equity research and over the last three years has headed one of the most widely renowned equity research units in Pakistan. He has an extensive understanding of all major listed sectors at the Karachi Stock Exchange, with a specialization in Oil & Gas and Power. Mr. Vakil has represented AKD Securities at various international marketing road shows and investor conferences across all major global financial centers for Pakistan Equities, where his expertise in the 'Oil & Gas' and 'Power' sectors of Pakistan has been highly regarded. He was ranked among the top three analysts in Pakistan by the CFA Association of Pakistan for the year 2006-07 for excellence in research.
Mr. Vakil also set up Pakistan’s first professional services platform to provide research and financial advisory services to financial institutions in the MENA region and GCC in particular. The success of providing offshore professional services led Mr. Vakil to set up AKD Analytics where he serves as a Senior Consultant creating specialized teams to provide clients with professional end-to-end financial services.
Mr. Vakil also serves as a Non-Executive Director of M3 Tech Pakistan (Formerly known as AKN Messaging Technologies) which is one the leading companies in Pakistan providing mobile content, applications, platforms and value added services (VAS) domestically and internationally – South Asia, Middle East and CIS Markets. M3 Tech is a joint venture between AKD Group and M3 Tech Malaysia.
Mr. Vakil has a Masters in Business Administration (Finance) from the Institute of Business Management (IoBM).
Umer Pervez has over nine years of experience in the capital markets of Pakistan with six years of experience in sell side equity research and over two years of experience in fund management. At AKD Securities Ltd., Mr. Umer is the Executive Director Research. Umer draws his leadership capabilities from previous roles including Fund Management and various Head of Research roles. Umer has an extensive understanding of all major listed sectors at the Karachi Stock Exchange and together with his fund management experience brings vast value to address client requirements.
Prior to joining AKD Securities Ltd., Umer was the Head of Equities at PICIC Asset Management Company (PICIC AMC) where he managed equities worth +US$ 150 million. Prior to joining PICIC AMC's equity desk, Umer was the Head of Research at PICIC AMC. Prior to joining PICIC AMC, Umer was the Head of Research at Shajar Capital Pakistan (formerly Burj Capital Pakistan). Under his tenure, he successfully transformed the research department into a revenue generating unit by providing bespoke business research focusing on the GCC region. Prior to joining Shajar Capital, Umer was an Investment Analyst at AKD Securities Ltd. where he represented AKD Securities at various marketing road shows and investor conferences for Pakistan Equities and his expertise in his assigned industry sectors were highly regarded.
Umer holds a Masters in Business Administration from The Pennsylvania State University, USA and a Bachelor of Science (Finance) from The Pennsylvania State University, USA.
Mr. Haris Aslam is the Head of AKD Trade Online and is responsible for all the affairs related to the online business. Mr. Aslam is a forward looking and energetic leader of the vibrant AKD Trade Team. He has a vast experience of Risk Management, Settlement, Portfolio Management and other Core Operations related to the Online Trading. Mr. Aslam also has a very good insight about the trading affairs as well as rules and regulations of the business.
Mr. Kazmi has been on the I.T side of Financial Services Industry for the last 5 years, helping clients in establishing hardware infrastructure & implementing Management Information Systems. Mr. Kazmi is currently the Head of I.T for AKD Group which includes AKD Securities Limited, AKD Investment Management, AKD Capital (Real Estate), Oil n Gas Investment Ltd. and several other AKD Group enterprises. His IT exposure includes his extensive exposure of 10 years Mr. Kazmi has always supported & helped technology division of brokers of Karachi Stock Exchange & financial institutions for promoting Online Trading business in Pakistan. He has also worked on the implementation Network level security in AKD to secure AKD Network. Prior to joining the AKD, he led all aspects of information technology as Engineer, Database Administrator, Network and systems administrator in various companies like Zahra Communications (Pvt) Ltd, Nettlink (Pvt) Ltd (Internet Service Provider) and EGS (Pvt) Ltd.
He feels that Information Technology plays a role model for every organization especially towards the Financial sectors. He sees I.T as a major revolution in the upcoming future which will allow to elevate our technology infrastructure to the next level, which will further efforts to grow Financial Markets in a prudent, efficient and strategic manner.
Mr. Tariq Adam Ghumra joined AKD Group in July, 1995 as a Manager Operations - Capital Market Division. At present, he is Director, Head of Equity Operations & Registered Agent of (SECP). He is responsible to monitor trades executions & clients exposures; developing relationship with financial institutions, local high net worth clients and investors; conducting reviews and evaluations for cost-reduction opportunities; prepared
proposal for commission on the basis of cost; analyzing regulatory changes and advising accordingly for system development; liaising with SECP & CDC auditors to ensure annual monitoring is carried out; monitoring cash flows of settlements; arranging new sources of finance for a company's debt facilities; Compiling financial reports on weekly basis & forward to the financial adviser ; monitoring financial accounts and reporting systems; monitoring Settlements Operations. Mr. Ghumra hold a degree of MBA-Finance, he was also serve as a Director of Metropolitan Steel Limited. He worked at Bear Stearns Jahangir Siddiqui Limited as a Manager Customer Service, & also held the post of Assistant Manager Operations.
Syed Imran Karim joined AKD Group in June, 1995 as a Manager Credit - Capital Market Operations. At present, he is a Head of Settlements. He is responsible for monitoring and supervising the settlement activities, coordinates with sales team in respect of all settlement & regulatory issues. He is also monitor reporting of trade executions to local & foreign institutional clients as well as individuals & to ensure on time settlement of foreign
trades by coordinating with settlements personal & their agent banks in Pakistan. Monitoring account opening forms of back office, NCCPL & CDC by ensure regulatory compliance. Handling queries of KSE, NCCPL,CDC & Banks on day to day basis. He worked at Bear Stearns Jahangir Siddiqui Limited as an Assistant Manager.
Ilyas Haji Ahmed has over 15 years experience with AKD Group. He is responsible for the Accounts of the company as a Chief Accountant & was later assigned the job of Company Secretary on conversion of sole brokerage house as a Corporate Brokerage house in 1999. Before joining AKD Mr. Ilyas worked for over 29 years with Insurance Companies & Commercial organization dealing in Automobile, Air conditioning with handling & maintenance
contracts & other allied business. He also worked as Chief Accountant of Standard Insurance Co Ltd.
Tanveer has done MBA in Finance & Accounts from Warwick University UK with over 9 years of experience in Accounts & Finance in service sector. He is presently the Manager Accounts at AKD. He has in-depth knowledge in Financial reporting according to International Financial Reporting Standards along with Corporate Reporting.
Prior to joining AKD Securities, Tanveer first worked for A.F.Ferguson & Company, Chartered Accountants – a member firm of Price Water House Coopers and then worked for Credit Solutions Limited UK – part of The Crucible Group. He was actively involved in providing debt structuring advises to UK big blue chip companies like Barclays Plc, Lloyds TSB & Npower. Currently Mr. Khan is a candidate for Stage 6 in the ACMA program.
Mr. Naveed is a commerce graduate and a student of final examinations of Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan. Prior to joining AKDS, he was associated with Riaz Ahmad & Company, Chartered Accountants, a member firm of Nexia International.
Mr. Naveed has a vast exposure of conducting statutory audits, internal audits and system audits of the companies of financial sector i.e. commercial banks, asset management companies, mutual funds and many other
companies in manufacturing and service sector.
He has very good knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards, Corporate Laws, Secretarial Practices, Prudential Regulations, NBFC Rules & Regulations, KSE Regulations and Taxation matters of the companies.
Saiyed Roomi Shamail pleasant style of HR management & Administration is unique. This includes 15 years in Admin & Human Resource Management and 07 years in Marketing. He has been head of HR, Administration & Procurement for more than 10 years.
